I absolutely love helping students reach their goal of learning to drive. Watching them make progress, get more comfortable, and sometimes overcome some pretty nasty fears is very rewarding for me. Since 2013 I’ve taught hundreds of students ranging in ages from 15 to 93 and from all parts of the world including India, Jamaica, Saudi Arabia and China just to name a few. Some of these students have never left the parking lot and some actually already have their license. I used to administer the driving test in Hillsboro and also wrote one of the old test routes for McMinnville. After starting my career with another reputable driving school, in 2016 I combined this newfound joy of teaching with a longstanding entrepreneurial spirit and Northwest Driving School was born. Each and every one of my students is unique in their experience and abilities and now I have the freedom to give them the individual and customized attention they need to be successful.

In early 2021 I introduced my wife, Megan, as the newest member of Northwest Driving School. She had been an amazing nurse for 20+ years but was ready for a positive change. After surviving the gauntlet of Northwest Driving School “instructor training”, and earning her DMV credentials, she quickly became a valuable asset to our students. Just in her first month I was getting positive feedback from parents, thanking me for Megan, and new students specifically requesting her. As of Sep ’21 she’s already taught over 200 lessons and in a wide variety of situations. She is loving this new chapter in her professional life and I am so happy to have her on the “team”.

Erica has come to us with some very valuable expertise and perspective. Her previous job was a full time test administrator in McMinnville and Wilsonville where she tested hundreds of hopeful drivers. In fact she had tested so many of our students that I stopped by to introduce myself. Immediately I knew she cared about the success of her test-takers and enjoyed the interaction and coaching aspect of the job. I also believe that testing new drivers (people you’ve never met with a variety of abilities, experience, personalities, age, etc) takes a certain level of patience, calmness, and bravery that is uncommon even among most driving instructors. Clearly Erica was good at her job and possessed these traits. So often though she wanted to spend more time to coach new drivers to be better, but of course being a test administrator had its limits in that regard. But now that’s exactly what she does and she’s good at that too. 😉 We’re very fortunate to have her.

We are very excited to add Greg to the Northwest Driving School team. He is a retired CDL driver with 30+ years of professional driving experience. Needless to say this has equipped him with an amazing ability to anticipate the road ahead and the actions of other drivers. This is a huge topic of discussion with all of our students. Greg sees it as “driving for both vehicles, them and yourself”. He graduated from Dayton High School and has lived in the area for 64 years. Coming to us with an incredible knowledge of the area (and surrounding areas), an enjoyment for teaching eight of his family members to drive, and an extensive professional skillset has all made this a natural fit. We’re lucky to have him.
